Adult stem cells (ASCs) were long suspected to exist in the endometrium. Indeed, several types of endometrial ASCs were identified in rodents and humans through diverse isolation and characterization techniques. Putative stromal and epithelial stem cell niches were identified in murine models using label-retention techniques. We studied endometrial thickness and homogeneity in 36 patients with postmenopausal bleeding using three-dimensional ultrasound following distention of the uterine cavity with a sterile saline solution (3D-SHSG). Results with 3D-SHSG were compared with findings using transvaginal sonography, transvaginal sonohysterography, transvaginal color Doppler, and hysteroscopy. Sixteen patients (including three on tamoxifen) were undergoing hormone therapy at the time when they were studied. Visualization of the uterine cavity and of endometrial thickness was better with 3D-SHSG than with any of the other ultrasound techniques. Endometrial carcinoma is the most frequent genital neoplasia in women. Precursors of this condition include endometrial hyperplasia, particularly when cytologic atypia occurs. Among the frequent early clinical manifestations of endometrial carcinoma is abnormal uterine bleeding that must be differentiated from bleeding associated with benign conditions. Highlights • Patients with lack of factor VIIa, suffering from abnormal uterine bleedings can be treated with laparoscopic hysterectomy. • Technique using bipolar coagulation and non-absorbable clips is safe and not time consuming. • Pre-operative loading with recombinant factor VIIa must be followed by prolonged supplementation in post-operative period. • We present suggested dosage and length of factor VIIa supplementation based on literature review and own experience.

The objective of this study was to determine whether transvaginal ultrasound plus color Doppler flow improve the ability to diagnose endometrial carcinoma and allow better discrimination between benign and malignant endometrial lesions.
